Firebox identity and required heater
VRT3542 is a vent-free gas firebox enclosure, not a complete gas burner or a wood-burning fireplace. Exact finish models are VRT3542WS (white stacked refractory) and VRT3542WH (white herringbone refractory). A separately purchased listed ANSI Z21.11.2 unvented decorative gas room heater is needed to produce a flame. The installed heater must not exceed 40,000 BTU/hr and must fit the firebox under its own minimum-dimension requirements. Fuel, ignition, operating controls and actual BTU input are determined by that exact heater, not by the empty enclosure.
No exhaust chimney or vent pipe is required for the intended vent-free configuration. This does not eliminate the requirement for adequate room combustion and ventilation air. A qualified installer must evaluate room volume, other fuel-burning appliances, tight construction and local restrictions using both the firebox and selected heater manuals. Do not burn wood or add unapproved logs, embers or decorative materials.
Fit and shipping specifications
| Parallel framing opening | 48-1/4 inches W × 44-1/4 inches H × 20-1/2 inches D, measured from the finished rear surface |
|---|---|
| Interior for heater-fit comparison | 41 inches front width; 29-1/4 inches rear width; 17-3/8 inches depth; 28 inches height |
| Manufacturer shipping weight | 230 lb for either WS or WH finish |
| Opening-to-ceiling clearance | 40 inches minimum; mantel and side clearances follow separate diagrams |
Optional equipment and conditional requirements
The FC42 hood is optional for the standard firebox arrangement. Installing it changes the applicable mantel-clearance diagram; it must not be replaced with a hood supplied with an unrelated log heater. A hearth extension is optional. Decorative screen panels, blower and outside-air equipment are optional and must be the exact listed parts for this size.
FBK-100 is the constant-speed blower; FBK-200 includes variable-speed wall control. Either blower installation also requires the separate junction-box/receptacle kit. The optional OAK-UVFRC outside-air gate and duct kit is listed for the right side; one kit serves that optional arrangement. These conditional installation parts do not make the blower or outside-air kit mandatory for every purchase.
The appliance must rest on a continuous supported surface. For carpet, vinyl or other specified combustible coverings, follow the manual’s full-width and full-depth protective-panel requirement. Do not remove top spacers, use the appliance for structural support, obstruct openings or fill clearance spaces with insulation. Installation must follow both manufacturer manuals and applicable codes.
Warranty and manufacturer documentation
The Superior limited warranty applies to specified covered components and has separate conditions, exclusions and shorter terms for certain parts and accessories. Review the warranty schedule rather than assuming every component has the same coverage.
VRT3542 family installation, operation and warranty manual. Use the selected gas-log heater’s own manual as well for fuel connection, log placement, controls, operation and maintenance.
