This policy defines how website guidance, configuration tools, manufacturer manuals, qualified installers, codes, venting, fuel conversion, and safety work together.
Purpose and scope
This policy explains the limits of online product guidance and the responsibilities involved in selecting, configuring, permitting, and installing fireplaces, venting, grills, outdoor-heating products, and related components.
Online guidance is not an installation plan
Website descriptions, compatibility prompts, chat guidance, product bundles, Build Your Fireplace, Design Your Space, venting tools, calculators, visual previews, and bills of material are intended to help organize product choices. They do not replace onsite measurements, load or structural analysis, combustion-air analysis, venting design, gas sizing, electrical design, code review, permitting, or the current manufacturer instructions.
Manufacturer documents control
Before ordering and installing, review the current manufacturer installation manual, owner's manual, safety labels, product listing, and technical bulletins for the exact model and fuel type. If website information differs from current manufacturer documentation, the manufacturer documentation controls. Contact us before purchase if you cannot locate or reconcile a required document.
Customer and installer verification
- Exact model, SKU, fuel type, ignition type, size, finish, orientation, and indoor or outdoor approval.
- Framing dimensions, clearances to combustibles, floor protection, mantel and television clearances, and structural support.
- Approved venting brand, series, diameter, route, rise, run, elbows, termination, firestops, supports, adapters, and air requirements.
- Gas type and pressure, approved conversion kit, electrical requirements, altitude, climate, corrosion exposure, and service access.
- Required components, optional accessories, local code, permits, inspections, and authority-having-jurisdiction requirements.
Qualified installation and service
Use an appropriately qualified and licensed professional whenever required by law, code, the manufacturer, or the work involved. Gas, venting, electrical, structural, chimney, and fuel-conversion work should not be performed by an unqualified person. United Fireplaces does not supervise installation and is not responsible for a contractor's work.
Fuel type and conversion
Natural gas and propane products are not interchangeable unless the manufacturer expressly approves a listed conversion for the exact model. Use only the correct manufacturer-approved conversion kit and instructions. Conversion may affect labels, settings, regulators, or warranty coverage and must be performed by a qualified professional when required.
Vent free products
Vent-free or ventless appliances are restricted or prohibited in some jurisdictions and may be limited by room size, altitude, building type, moisture conditions, or code. The customer and installer must confirm legality and suitability with the local authority having jurisdiction and follow the product listing, manual, ventilation requirements, and carbon-monoxide alarm requirements.
Venting and chimney components
Do not mix venting brands, series, diameters, or components unless the fireplace and venting manufacturers expressly approve the combination. A visual layout or recommended parts list cannot account for concealed framing, roof conditions, offsets, termination clearance, existing chimney condition, or field changes. The installer must verify the final system before installation.
Images finishes and visual tools
Product photographs, flame images, room scenes, finishes, and design previews are illustrative. Screens, lighting, manufacturing variation, media placement, and installation conditions can change appearance. Request a physical sample or manufacturer confirmation when an exact finish is critical.
Inspection before work begins
Receive and inspect every box before demolition or installation. Confirm the product, fuel, components, condition, and manuals. Do not schedule irreversible work solely around a delivery estimate. Installation, alteration, or disposal of packaging may affect return and freight-claim eligibility.
Installer referrals
Installers or service providers listed or referred by United Fireplaces are independent businesses unless expressly stated otherwise. A listing or referral is not a guarantee of availability, licensing, insurance, pricing, workmanship, code compliance, or results. The customer must independently verify credentials, insurance, permits, references, scope, and contract terms and pays the provider directly unless a written agreement states otherwise.
Safety concerns and emergencies
Follow all warnings and shutdown instructions in the manufacturer manual. If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, see uncontrolled fire or smoke, or believe there is an immediate hazard, stop using the product, leave the area when appropriate, and contact the gas utility, fire department, emergency services, or another qualified local authority. Do not rely on email, chat, or a website form for an emergency.
