The manual does not specify a chimney or flue connection; adequate outdoor combustion and ventilation air remains essential. Covered and partially enclosed installations must satisfy the manual’s wall/open-perimeter diagrams. Where a covered enclosure has three side walls, at least 30 percent of its horizontal periphery must remain permanently open; screening requires an adjustment for the mesh open area. Minimum porch area is 96 square feet and minimum ceiling height is 90 inches.
Maintain at least 6 inches from the inside fireplace opening to a combustible side wall and 24 inches from the top opening to the ceiling. Minimum alcove width is 72 inches and maximum alcove depth is 24 inches. Combustible mantels require the depth-dependent clearances in the manual diagram. Apply the clearance and finishing rules to both viewing sides. These dimensions do not replace the full installation drawings.
Provide drainage beneath the fireplace. DT48LSS is an optional drain-tray accessory; a drainage path is still required when that tray is not used. The manual calls for at least 6 inches of additional enclosure height when installing the drain tray to accommodate its connection and tubing. The unit sheds moderate water but is not waterproof and does not function as an exterior weather barrier. Plan flashing, sloped drainage surfaces and shelter from direct wind.
