Empire Whiskey River 30-Inch Natural Gas Millivolt Log and Burner Set VFDR30LBWN

The VFDR30LBWN combines a 30-inch Whiskey River log set with its matching millivolt gas burner. This natural gas package includes 7 refractory logs and provides up to 40,000 BTU/h input. It installs in a suitable fireplace or approved firebox; it is not a complete fireplace enclosure.

Included, required and optional

Included: the matching burner/grate assembly and 7-piece refractory log set. Follow the model-specific placement illustrations rather than rearranging the logs for appearance.

Required: a suitable fireplace or approved enclosure, the correct gas supply and a qualified installation meeting the complete combustion-air, clearance and venting rules. A separate decorative log set is not required for this logs-and-burner package.

Optional: the manufacturer lists FRBC battery remote, FRBTC thermostatic remote, FREC electric remote, FWS wall switch, TRW remote wall thermostat and TMV millivolt wall thermostat for VFDR models. These controls are not required selections. Thermostatic control is permitted only in vent-free applications. The millivolt gas valve is self-powered and does not require a 110-volt supply.

A fireplace hood may be needed for a particular mantel/clearance installation; it is not automatically required for every installation. Use only the approved ember materials in the locations and amounts shown in the manual.

Fireplace dimensions and clearances

Minimum fireplace opening: 34 inches front width, 26 inches rear width, 12 inches depth and 20 inches height. These are minimum fireplace fit dimensions, not the physical dimensions of the log set. Measure inside the glass-door frame where present.

Maintain at least 6 inches from the sides of the opening to a combustible wall and 41 inches from the opening to the ceiling. Mantel height depends on projection, noncombustible facing and hood use; use the full manual diagrams for the installation. Keep glass doors fully open during operation.

Venting and installation guidance

Vent-free operation uses room air and requires adequate combustion and ventilation air. This is supplemental zone heat, not a primary whole-house heater.

The manual also lists this model for a vented decorative installation in a suitable solid-fuel fireplace. That installation requires the prescribed open-flue/damper arrangement. Canadian installations are vented only. Thermostats must not be used in a vented decorative installation.

This heat-input model must not be installed in a bedroom or bathroom.

Have installation and servicing performed by a qualified technician. Follow the manufacturer manual and applicable codes, keep burner ports clear, and arrange service if abnormal soot develops.

Warranty and manufacturer documents

The manual provides a limited five-year parts-and-labor warranty for covered components, with remotes, thermostats, accessories and replacement parts covered by a limited one-year parts warranty. Original-purchaser, qualified-installation and other manufacturer terms apply.
