How do I determine which fuel source is best for my application?
It depends on the application. If you are looking to heat an entire home
Wood and Pellets stoves are going to produce the highest BTUs, allowing most applications to use these units as a main source of heat.
Gas stoves though could be used as a main source of heat, the BTUs in gas fireplaces are significantly lower than of a wood or pellet Stoves. Gas fireplaces are great for heating spaces rather than entire houses. With a significant number of options and styles, the Gas fireplace will provide a pretty aesthetic, while also boosting efficiency.
Electric Fireplaces have come very far in their technology over the past two decades, but electric heaters are more used as space heaters rather than a significant source of heat. Coming in many different shapes and sizes, and ease of installation, electric is a great option for versatility in flame colors and the aesthetics of a real fireplace with less risk of fire.
How do I Know Which Size Fireplace to Put in my Space?
Often calculating what size fireplace can seem complicated, but a general rule of thumb is 20 BTUs/SqFt. If you have a room that is 12x20= 240 Square Feet. If you take 240x20=4,800. You would need about 4800 BTUs to heat this space.

What are the differences in Gas ignition Systems?
There are three different categories in which Gas Stoves can be ignited. Manual, Millivolt and Ipi or Electric. Each has its own benefits.
Manual Ignition - Is typically the same system used when lighting a barbecue grill. You need to turn the gas on manually before use, hold down the gas line bleeder and click the ignitor. Benefits of this system are ease of use and ability to use without power. Cons, there are not a lot of modern accessories that can be used, i.e. wall switches, thermostats or remotes. These components can be purchased separately in some fireplaces, but most do not allow for external components
Millivolt Ignition - A Millivolt ignition is a standing pilot light that can be used in a multitude of applications. A standing pilot is a flame that is constantly running. Best used for high altitudes and colder climates, as the small flames allow your fireplaces to have a continuous updraft through your chimney/Venting system. Which makes start-up of the unit a breeze in cold weather. There are a few more options to help get the fireplace started when utilizing a millivolt ignition like a wall switch and/or remote control. In many cases as well you can purchase upgraded remotes that also double as a flame height control or Thermostat. Cons, because this is constant pilot, you do use a little more fuel throughout the year.
Intermittent Pilot Ignition/Electric Ignition/IPI - IPI ignitions are fully electric ignitions systems. Primarily controlled by a remote or wall switch has the most current Gas Fireplace electronics in the housing of the fireplace. The entire process is controlled by a simple push of a button. Once you hit on, your fireplace will click to light the ignitor or pilot and then you can adjust from there the functionality of the flames, heat output and common gas accessories like LED light packages and under glow lighting. When you are ready to turn off the fireplace, again, press the on/off button and the unit does the rest of the work, including shutting down the gas supply and the pilot light. Cons - Many times you will need to get a battery back up to use this setup in the instance you may lose power, and the electronic components are more sensitive and if you do not have experience in installing fireplaces, it could result in serious injury.
